The Shard is a skyscraper located in London, the capital city of the United Kingdom.
The building is 309.6 meters high and has 95 floors, making it the tallest building in the country and the European Union, the fourth tallest building in Europe, and the 87th tallest building in the world.Construction of The Shard began in March 2009 and was completed in November 2012.
Finally, the observation point of the building was put into service on February 1, 2013.
On the site where it was previously located, Southwark Towers was demolished for the construction of the building.
The building was designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano and is constructed of steel and glass.

In January 2008, however, Sellar announced that it had secured funding from a consortium of Qatari investors who paid £150m to secure an 80% stake in the project.
The consortium included Qatar National Bank, QInvest, Qatari Islamic Bank, and Qatari property developer Barwa Real Estate and Sellar Property.
The deal included the acquisition of Halabi and CLS Holdings shares and a portion of Sellar Property.
The new owners allowed the towers construction to begin, promising to secure the first tranche of financing.
In 2009, Qatar consolidated ownership of the London Bridge Quarter (now known as the Shard Quarter), including The Shard, by acquiring shares from private Qatari investors.
The Shard Quarter is now jointly owned by the State of Qatar and Sellar.The Shard was built with energy efficiency in mind.
It is equipped and supported by a combined heat and power (CHP) plant powered by natural gas from the National Grid.
